A lot of people ask me: how did you start making instruments? I began playing guitar when I was 20, and not long after that I became fascinated with the different sounds of instruments, and what gave them their unique sound. After about 7 years playing guitar, I decided I wanted to build a guitar. Lucky for me I enjoy research as much as I enjoy building.
So I began to research how to construct a guitar and I quickly learned that gluing together a bunch of pieces of wood to look like a guitar was relatively easy. The difficulty was in the details of tone, finish quaility, playability and expression of personal vision. These aspects of instrument making are what motivates me to continue pursuing the craft of lutherie. It hasn’t been easy, perserverance and problem solving is necessary to be a successful luthier.
I am constantly working on projects. If I don't have a comission at the moment I will be working on some personal project that interests me. If you are interested in my work or have any questions about my process or terms, please feel free to contact me at: eshulldesign @ gmail.com (no spaces).
